Looking abroad for brides

AT LEAST 15 local men from Pahang marry foreign women every month, reported Nanyang Siang Pau

The daily quoted state immigration director Abdul Rahman Harun as saying that almost all visa applications were from local Chinese men and most were marrying Indonesian women while those with Vietnamese women were rising.

A spokesman for the Happy Marriage Agency, who wanted to be known only as Lee, said most bridegrooms were above 30 years old, and were widowers and or of a shy nature.

He said:”All of them are financially independent.

“And it is challenging for men in their 30s to look for a life partner as most women in their 30s are usually married, while women in their 20s mostly went out with men their age.”

On the flipside, Lee said, there were also cases of unsuccessful marriages because the foreign wives could not cope with the change, found that they had to do house chores non-stop and or could not communicate with their husbands.

> SIN Chew Daily suggested the construction of centralised pig farming areas to allow relevant authorities to monitor and control these areas more effectively while reducing environmental pollution.

“The Government must speed up action to build such areas while farmers should also keep up with the latest developments in pig farming and not operate their farms in the traditional way anymore.

“Otherwise, the pig farming industry will no longer be able to survive in Malaysia,” it said.

The daily said the sale of pork was down by 50% after news reports of the banned substance beta-agonist being used in pig farming.

“The biggest impact is on the farmers, while the bad apples continue to use the growth enhancer,” it said.

It said the Government not only had to control the sale of beta-agonist but also to draw up a long-term and transparent plan to monitor the farmers.
