Celebrity fined for khalwat


PENANG: TV personality Nabila Huda Suhaimi, a daughter of rock star Amy of Search fame, was slapped with a RM2,000 fine for committing khalwat (close proximity) with a 24-year-old show promoter. 

The actress and her partner Zaidi Zailani, who was fined the same amount, were caught in a room at Good Hope Inn in Jalan Kelawei here at 2am on Sept 26. 

Both paid the fine. 

The two were charged under the Penang Syariah Enactment 1996, which provides for a fine of up to RM3,000 or two years’ jail or both upon conviction. 

In mitigation, Nabila, who is currently shooting her latest drama Cinta Terakhir at Universiti Utara Malaysia, said she was no longer dependent on her parents and was making her own living in acting.
