Two more dengue deaths in past week


KUALA LUMPUR: Two more deaths from dengue fever last week have taken this year’s total to 83. 

The Health Ministry’s Disease Control Division said in a statement that the deaths were in Johor and Negri Sembilan. 

It said an 18-year-old girl who was admitted to Segamat Hospital on Oct 19 died on Oct 23. 

A four-year-old girl from Jempol died of dengue haemorrhagic fever on Saturday. She was admitted to the Seremban Hospital on Thursday.  

The statement said 75 deaths from dengue fever had been reported in the corresponding week last year.  

Overall, 824 dengue cases were reported last week, a drop of 240 cases or 22.6% compared with the 1,064 cases in the previous week. 

Up to Saturday, the accumulated dengue cases this year stood at 32,950, including 1,635 cases of dengue haemorrhagic fever.  

Up to Oct 22, 9,381 cases were confirmed positive – 8,897 being dengue fever and 484 dengue haemorrhagic fever. – Bernama
