Azmi: Normala a blessing

KUALA LUMPUR: Home Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Azmi Khalid is grateful to his new wife, celebrity Normala Shamsuddin, for bringing him good fortune.

“Thank you, darling,” said Azmi to his wife in front of 200 guests from the media who joined the couple to break the fast here yesterday.

Azmi said in jest that his marriage to the former TV personality, who once was bestowed the title of the most beautiful Malay woman, had now placed him in the media spotlight.

“Tonight, I see such a big crowd of media people at my function. For this, I must thank my wife,” he said with a broad smile.

Azmi, however, declined to provide details on the marriage, saying he did not wish to cause misunderstanding among their close relatives.

Azmi, 64, married Normala, 41, at his friend's house in Taman Tun Dr Ismail here on Aug 25.

The wedding took place about five months after his late wife, Datin Seri Yasmin Abdullah, 62, passed away on March 24 after losing a year-long battle to leukaemia.

Yasmin left behind four children - Dr Soraya, Johan Mohriz, Ida Mariana and Ilhan Salimee. – Bernama
