Opposition MPs benefited from efforts initiated by MCA, says Sabah leader

KUALA LUMPUR: An MCA leader from Sabah said while the DAP had accused the Barisan Nasional component party of doing nothing for the Chinese community, at least two MPs from the opposition party had benefited from the MCA.

Sabah MCA vice-chairman Chew Kok Woh singled out Serdang MP Teo Nie Ching and Bukit Mertajam MP Chong Eng as having benefited from MCA's efforts.

Chew said Teo's mother, who is suffering from a heart problem, had reportedly sought the help of the Negri Sembilan MCA for medical aid.

“This was reported by the Guang Ming Chinese daily as well as online portal stopthelies.my,” he said, adding Teo herself had admitted to this.

Chew said the same portal had reported that Chong Eng had studied at the Tunku Abdul Rahman College (TARC), which was founded by the MCA, before entering Universiti Pertanian Malaysia.

“She (Chong Eng) had gained from projects initiated and financially supported by the MCA,” said Chew.

He said the MCA was glad these matters had been exposed by the media because DAP leaders were fond of telling the Chinese voters the BN component had not done anything for the community.

Chew said the MCA and the Chinese community spend millions of ringgit to support TARC and Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman.

The two institutes of higher learning had produced 185,000 graduates, with annual intakes at both places being about 20,000 students.

He said the college and the university were in addition to many other projects, including the 1MCA Medical Foundation.
