Resident gets bill for grass-cutting services

A RESIDENT from SS3 in Petaling Jaya, was puzzled when she received a bill for grass-cutting services recently from the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ).

“There is no grass outside my house. I have been staying here since 2006 and have not asked the MBPJ to cut the grass inside my house compound,” said Manjeet Gill.

The bill dated Oct 18 was sent to her for payment of grass-cutting services on July 12.

“More puzzling is the fact that the bill was sent to me as the property owner but the customer’s name is different. I do not know anyone by that name,” she said.

Unpleasant surprise: Manjeet’s bill from MBPJ.

Manjeet said the council should get the billing information correct before sending out the bills.

“There isn’t even an IC number or contact number of the person who supposedly requested the services,” she said.

MBPJ public relations officer Zainun Zakaria said the health department had sent out notices to those owing the council money for grass-cutting services recently.

“These are usually for cases where vacant premises or empty lots that have been left unkempt and are becoming an eyesore.

“When their neighbours complain, we will go in to cut the grass and bill the property owner,” she said.

She added that the MBPJ would never bill residents for cutting grass outside their house compound.

“Residents who feel that they have been wrongly billed can bring to us a copy of their sales and purchase agreement as proof of when they bought the property,” she said.
