PETALING JAYA: Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina (pic) will attempt to become the first player to defend her title at the WTA Malaysian Open.
Since the tournament’s inception in 2010, none of the six previous winners – Russia’s Alisa Kleybanova (2010), Australia’s Jelena Dokic (2011), Taiwan’s Hsieh Su-wei (2012), Czech Republic’s Karolina Pliskova (2013), Croatia’s Donna Vekic (2014) and Denmark’s Caroline Wozniacki (2015) have successfully defended their title.
