Malaysia march into final of World Junior Squash Championships

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia have stormed into the final of the girls' team event at the World Junior Squash Championships in Tauranga, New Zealand.

Malaysia, seeded second, overcame five-time winners England with a 2-0 win scoreline in the semi-finals on Friday.

In the first tie, 15-year-old Aifa Azman shrugged off a stiff challenge by Jasmine Hutton to hand Malaysia the lead.

The two-time British Junior Open winner dropped the first set against her 18-year-old opponent but fought back strongly to win 6-11, 12-10, 12-10, 11-6.

World No. 59 S. Sivasangari then provided the finishing touch after thumping Lucy Turmel 11-8, 11-8, 11-4 in the second tie.

The win earned Malaysia their third appearance in the final, but on the first since 2007.

Malaysia next meet top seeds and heavy favourites Egypt in a bid to win their first team title.

Egypt were simply too strong for Hong Kong in the semi-finals, taking a total of 36 minutes to seal an easy 2-0 win.
