Sanjay Singh Chal lost 4-11, 4-11, 9-11 in 29 minutes to India’s Harinderpal Sandhu at the Malaysian Tour Squash Circuit quarter-finals.
PETALING JAYA: The local challenge in the seventh leg of the Malaysian Tour Squash Circuit (SSJM) came to an abrupt end in the quarter-final stage at the Kangar Squash Complex.
Malaysia’s Sanjay Singh Chal, who had beaten compatriots Gurshan Singh and Elvinn Keo en route to the quarter-finals, found third seed Harinderpal Sandhu of India just too much to handle.
The 20-year-old Sanjay lost 4-11, 4-11, 9-11 in 29 minutes.
Harinderpal will meet compatriot Ramit Tandon in the last four. The 22-year-old Ramit, ranked148th in the world, stunned second seed Ammar Altamimi of Kuwait 13-11, 11-6, 8-11, 7-11, 11-8.
The other semi-final will be an all-Egyptian affair – with top seed Karim Ali Fathi taking on eighth seed Shehab Essam Hosny.
The women’s competition, which started on Thursday, saw two Malaysians – Vanessa Raj and Teh Min Jie – making the quarter-finals.
But their challenges ended on the same day as world No. 69 Vanessa lost 9-11, 11-3, 11-9, 9-11, 3-11 to world No. 72 Cheyna Tucker of South Africa while Min Jie went down 6-11, 9-11, 9-11 to world No. 44 Deon Saffery of Wales.
