Top form Ramy wins El Gouna

PETALING JAYA: World No. 4 Ramy Ashour retained the El Gouna International Squash Open title by beating compatriot and world No. 3 Mohamed El Shorbagy 11-7, 12-10, 8-11, 11-8 in the final.

The 26-year-old Ramy, sidelined by injury from October last year until January, won 11-7, 12-10, 8-11, 11-8.

It was only his second Professional Squash Association (PSA) World Series title since claiming the British Open last year.

Ramy took the first two sets but the 23-year-old Mohamed fought back to nick the third.

The talented Ramy, a two-time world champion, however showed his determination as he bounced back in style to take the fourth and the championship.

“I’ve never felt better,” said Ramy. “I’m overwhelmed to win the title and I’m very happy with my performance today – I thought it was a great match.

“Mohamed is one of the most explosive and best players around. He’s got many different attributes and is a threat to all the top players.

“He’s already a top five player and he’s definitely going to be one to watch but I’m happy to win today.”
