KUALA LUMPUR: Egypt’s Ramy Ashour upset top seed Nick Matthew of England for a place in the men’s final of the Windy City Open in Chicago.
The 26-year-old Ashour, the two-time world champion, won 11-9, 10-12, 11-1, 11-4 on Sunday to set up a date with second seed Gregory Gaultier of France for the title.
The Frenchman warded off a strong challenge from fourth seed Mohamed El Shorbagy of Egypt before prevailing 11-7, 6-11, 11-9, 11-6.
In the women’s category, top seed and British Open champion Laura Massaro will face second seed Raneem El Weleily of Egypt in the final.
The 30-year-old world No. 2 Massaro, however, faced a stern test from seventh seed Camille Serme of France before winning 11-9, 12-14, 9-11, 11-6, 11-6 in 89 minutes in the semi-finals.
The 25-year-old El Weleily, meanwhile, just needed 31 minutes to get the better of fourth seed Joelle King of New Zealand 12-10, 11-8, 11-7.
