SANDAKAN: NZ Borneo Eagles emerged champions of the Borneo Sevens Rugby International Championships after beating Australia’s Tribe 7S 19-14 in a thrilling final.
The Eagles trailed 7-14 in the first half, but stormed back to clinch victory at the IJM Eagles Rugby Club here on Sunday. They took home US$10,000 (RM44,000).
It was sweet revenge for the Eagles as they were hammered 14-36 by Tribe earlier in their Group A clash.
In the final of the men’s Plate category, Dinowin KSDBKL crushed Sri Lanka 33-15 while Singapore edged Malaysia 19-17 in the Bowl category.
Alabang Eagles of the Philippines tamed Cobra 26-7 to take the Shield title.
Sri Lanka bagged the women’s title when they beat Thailand 12-5 in the final.
In the Plate category, South Korea whitewashed Malaysia 17-0 while Eagles RFC of the Philippines clobbered Singapore 20-7 to bag the Bowl crown. – Bernama
