SINGAPORE: Tournament favourites Fiji and New Zealand lost their opening matches before bouncing back to reach the quarter-finals in the eighth leg of the World Rugby Sevens here.

Fiji, who won the seventh leg in Hong Kong last weekend, suffered a shock 28-14 loss to Samoa in their opening Group A match at the National Stadium here on Saturday.
