KEMAMAN (Bernama): Terengganu will send 25 riders, including seven women, to the 17th Sukma (Malaysia Games) in Perlis, from May 24-June 4.
Terengganu head coach Syed Mohd Hussaini Syed Mazlan said Mohd Nabil Umar Bakri, winner of three gold medals in the 2012 Sukma in Pahang, will spearhead the team’s challenge.
“Mohd Nabil is one of the oldest and most experienced riders in the squad,” he said on Monday.
Umi Hamimah Ahmad, winner of two gold medals at the 2012 Sukma, will lead the women’s challenge.
According to Syed Mohd Hussaini the Terengganu Sukma squad returned home on Monday after a month’s training in Chiang Rai, Thailand.
He added that Terengganu’s Sukma target is four gold medals.
Meanwhile, Malacca have threatened stern action against their athletes who misbehave at the Games.
Contingent leader Datuk Abd Rahaman Abd Karim said any athlete caught taking drugs, consuming alcohol, gambling or breaking other regulations would be sent back immediately.
“We have instructed all managers and team captains to strictly monitor athletes under their charge. We must promote and not tarnish Malacca’s name at the Games,” he said.
Malacca are sending 293 athletes to participate in 21 of the 23 events at the Games. Their target is 25 gold medals.
