PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah earned a much-needed boost, scoring a season’s best 10th-place finish in the Moto2 at the Dutch Grand Prix.
The Petronas Raceline Malaysia rider gained six points at the TT Assen Circuit on Saturday to bring his tally to nine and 25th in the World Championship standings. Earlier, he had claimed one point each in Qatar, the United States and France.
It was a superb display from the 20-year-old as he had started from 28th spot on the 34-man grid.
Hafizh finished 50.761 seconds behind winner Anthony West of Australia in the 24-lap race.
Azlan Shah Kamaruddin of Idemitsu Honda Team Asia, the other Malaysian rider, managed only three laps before retiring.
In Moto3, Zulfahmi Khairuddin also enjoyed a fruitful day. He stormed from 26th spot on the grid to finish a creditable 14th spot.
Zulfahmi finished 25.710 seconds behind winner Alex Marquez of Spain, who completed the 22-lap race in 38’07.648.
Malaysian Hafiq Azmi of SIC-Ajo was placed 29th.
With the two points earned yesterday, Zulfahmi is now placed 21st with 13 points in the overall standings.
