Zaqhwan not slipping up in Cub Prix

PETALING JAYA: Honda’s Mohd Zaqhwan Zaidi lived up to his billing as favourite by setting the CP130 pace in the fifth round of the Petronas AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship in Temerloh, Pahang.

On Saturday, the 19-year-old Givi Honda Yuzy Racing rider blazed the 1.082km in 43.753 to top the time sheet ahead of Harian Metro Y-TEQ SCK Honda Racing’s Ahmad Fazrul Sham (44.348) and Yamalube AHM’s Mohd Iskandar Raduan (44.583).

Zaqhwan is eyeing a hat-trick of wins in Temerloh, having captured the previous races in Terengganu (Round 3) and Malacca (Round 4).

“Coming in fastest in all the practice sessions gives me the confidence to fight for a hat-trick here in my hometown,” said Zaqhwan.

“The team did a great job with the bike. From the first practice session, they knew what needed to be done and all I had to do was work on my riding.”

Speaking on Sunday’s qualifying and race proper, Zaqhwan said: “We certainly have the pace but I do not want to get carried away by it. Anything can happen during a race so I’m keeping an open mind and do my best.”
