PETALING JAYA: Mohd Zaqhwan Zaidi kept up his hot streak in the CP130 category of the Petronas AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Cham-pionship after blazing the tracks for the fastest practice time in Malacca.
The Givi Honda Yuzy Racing rider clocked the quickest lap at 49.037 to prove himself untouchable so far, with Norizman Ismail of Harian Metro Y-TEQ SCK Honda Racing and Ahmad Fazli Sham of Petronas Yamaha Maju Motor coming in second and third fastest respectively.
This is the fourth race in a row, since the season started in April, that the 19-year-old has topped the practice sessions.
Zaqhwan is now looking forward to Sunday’s SuperPole where he is targeting a front row start as he eyes a third win of the season.
“I would have loved to go faster but certain areas of the track have been resurfaced ... making it hard to go any faster,” said Zaqhwan.
“But it was still a really positive run ... although it would have been nice to beat Mohd Zamri Baba’s lap record of 49.035.
“We definitely have the pace but I do not expect an easy race tomorrow. Norizman has made tremendous improvement from the previous round and I’m certain he will be among the frontrunners.”
Besides the top three of Zaqhwan, Norizman and Fazli, the other seven riders who qualified for the SuperPole are Mohd Affendi Rosli, Mohd Taufiq Roslan, Ahmad Fazrul Sham, Mohd Fitri Ashraff Razali, Ahmad Afif Amran, S. Sasitharen and Mohd Iskandar Raduan.
