Zulfahmi gets first point of 2014 at Argentina MotoGP

PETALING JAYA: Malaysian Zulfahmi Khairuddin chalked up his first point of the 2014 season when he finished 15th at the Argentina Grand Prix.

Zulfahmi, riding a Honda machine for Ongetta-AirAsia team, left it late until the final lap to move past fellow Malaysian Hafiq Azmi to bag the precious one point in the Moto3 race on Sunday.

“It was a tough race for me as I had to overtake one rider at a time,” said Zulfahmi, who started from 25th place on the grid.

“I am happy with one point, but there is still a lot to improve in terms of set-up and my riding style,” he added.

In Moto2, Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah’s hopes of finishing in the points went up in smoke as the Petronas Raceline Malaysia rider was only placed 20th.

Hafizh had a rocket start and was running in 10th place in the first lap, but handling issues with his Kalex saw him run wide and gradually dropping down the order.

“I had a perfect take-off and was able to get a good position in the first lap. Unfortunately, I faced some problems with the handling.

“I tried to push, still hoping to finish with some championship points. But the more I push, the more I ran wide especially at the hairpin section of the track,” lamented Hafizh.

Veteran Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman of Honda Idetmisu ended one rung below Hafizh in 21st spot.

The fourth round of the championship is in Jerez, Spain, on May 4.
