Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah will start the Moto2 race of the Argentina GP in 17th spot.
PETALING JAYA: Malaysian Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah could only manage the 17th fastest time in final qualifying for the Moto2 category of the Argentina Grand Prix at the Termas de Rio Hondo Circuit.
The Petronas Raceline Malaysia rider clocked 1:44.821 on Saturday, 0.860 seconds behind pole sitter Esteve Rabat of Spain.
Hafizh was eyeing to improve his lap time in the final minutes of qualifying, but heavy traffic prevented the young Petronas Talent Development rider from achieving his target.
“It was a good qualifying for us because I was able to push and post better lap times compared to Friday’s practice. I tried to go a little faster towards the end but traffic held me up,” said the 19-year-old, who picked up two points from the first two rounds this season.
“Overall, we had another great day and I look forward to race day. But before that, we will finalise everything in the warm-up practice and make sure everything runs like clockwork,” he added
Veteran Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman of Idemitsu Honda Team Asia could only manage 31st spot after clocking 1:46.045.
