PETALING JAYA: Go-karter Muizzuddin Musyaffa Abdul Gafar scored a sensational victory in the second round of the WSK Super Master Series at the 7 Laghi Circuit in Italy.
The 12-year-old Malaysian, who is based in Sicily, won the Mini60 race class on the last lap on Sunday. It was his second win of the season, having won the first round – the WSK Champions Cup – in February.
A total of 53 drivers competed and Muizzuddin topped the qualifying timesheet by clocking 55.606. Canadian Antonio Serravalle was second fastest in 56.671.
Muizzuddin, driving for Gamoto Racing team, scored two wins and a second-place finish in the heats to start from pole position in the final race.
Muizzuddin, however, dropped to seventh after the first lap. He then fought his way back to third and eventually won the race when frontrunners Nicola Abrusci of Italy and Serravalle tangled into each other on the last lap.
Italians Mizevych Makar and Christian Cobellini finished second and third respectively.
With the win, Muizzuddin now lies third in the overall standings with 32 points. His next assignment – the final round – is the La Conca race in Apulia, Italy, on April 27.
