SEPANG: Malaysian motor rider Ahmad Afif Amran has set his sights on finishing in the points in every race this season after receiving the Yamaha Spirit of Challenge Award.

Afif, who has been promoted to the CP130 category this year, is motivated after getting the award, which recognises the exceptional performances and results of Yamaha riders all over the world.

The 19-year-old marked an outstanding 2013 season by lifting the CP115 title in the Petronas AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship and finishing as runner-up in the Underbone 115cc class of the Petronas Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC).

He also bagged the SuperSports 600cc B title in the Malaysian Super Series (MSS).

“I am extremely happy and proud to be the first Malaysian to receive this award. It came as a huge surprise as I was only told about it last week,” said an overjoyed Afif, who is one of five Asians to win the award.

“Now that I’ve been promoted to the CP130 category for this season, I am a bit nervous as I’ll be racing against more experienced riders.

“But I am also excited to see what I can achieve in the premiere class. Hopefully, this award can help lift my spirits.

“The team’s objective is to see me finish in the top five but I intend to consistently finish each race with points.”
