Gymnast Poh San misses bronze by a whisker

GLASGOW: National rhythmic gymnast Wong Poh San missed out in the individual all-around bronze medal by a whisker.

Laura Halford of Wales pipped ahead of Poh San to take the bronze medal with a total score of 56.225 in the second day of the rhythmic gymnastics competition at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow on Friday.

Another Welsh Francesca Jones picked up the silver with a score of 57.350 while hot favourite Patricia Bezzoubenko of Canada clinched the gold with 59.175.

Poh San, who won the team bronze together with Amy Kwan Dict Weng and Fatin Zakirah Zain Jalany on Thursday could only manage 55.875.

Another Malaysian gymnast Amy Kwan finished sixth overall with a score of 53.475.

Bezzoubenko is set to make a clean sweep in rhythmic gymnastics after having led Canada to win the gold in the team event. Four more medals are up for grabs in the individual finals (hoop, ball, clubs and ribbons) on Saturday.
