PETALING JAYA: Federal Territory once again emerged as overall champions of the MSSM (national schools) rhythmic gymnastics championships, albeit by a solitary gold medal.
FT ended four days of competition with 29 medals – 11 gold, 12 silver and six bronze. Selangor were not far behind with 27 medals of their own (10 gold, nine silver and eight bronze), while Pahang took the third spot with one bronze.
On the last day of competition at the Port Dickson Polytechnic, FT ensured themselves the top spot after Thew Yue Jia, Adelina Theresa Mathews, Chan Mei Thung, Yap Sin Lu and Dania Imanina Kamarul Bahrin took the gold for clubs in the group exercise event in the junior category.
FT’s score of 13.300 (competition one) and 14.250 in Friday’s final was enough to see them clinch the gold with a combined score of 27.550.
Selangor had to settle for silver with 25.400, with Sabah taking third place with 17.050.
FT also nicked the gold in the senior category group exercise mixed apparatus event (three balls and two ribbons) after scoring 24.950 ahead of Selangor (23.750) and Johor (12.900) who finished second and third respectively.
In the pre-junior category, Selangor’s Iman Suraya Fakhr Yassin, Jessie Liaw Zi Xing, Goh Jen Wei, Maizatul Azyan and Cheam Hay Lee scored 10.950 (competition one) and a much-improved 12.500 for a combined total of 23.450 to take gold.
Rayna Hoh Khai Ling, Jingle Shak Qi, Faliha Shaslynne Ahmad Husni, Zarith Sofie Mohd Syaifulzafni and Nur Farina Ahmad Nasaruddin of FT finished second with 21.900 followed by Perak in third with 18.350.
