(Reuters) - Rory McIlroy hopes his disappointing showing at last week's U.S. Open will have knocked off the rust that built up while he recovered from injury and make him better prepared for this week's Travelers Championship in Cromwell, Connecticut.

McIlroy has played just a handful of tournaments this year after battling through a rib injury, which he said was not a factor in him missing the cut at Erin Hills after shooting an ugly first-round 78.
