PETALING JAYA: American Jason Knutzon fired a seven-under 64 to take a two-stroke lead after the first round of the Panasonic Open in Japan.
The 41-year-old had seven birdies and one bogey at the Chiba Country Club to finish two strokes ahead of Thailand’s Udorn Duangdecha and Japanese Satoshi Kodaira of Japan.
South Korean Kim Hyung-sung posted a 67 to tie for fourth with compatriot Hur In-hoi, Hiroshi Iwata of Japan and Thai Panuphol Pittayarat.
Malaysia’s Nicholas Fung, the winner of the PGM UMW Championship at the TPC Kuala Lumpur last week, managed a 70 to be joint 60th. Gavin Green and veteran Danny Chia are tied 85th after shooting identical 73s while Othman Sukree had a 78 to be placed 132nd out of 138 golfers.
The tournament is co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour and Japan Golf Tour Organisation.
