KUALA LUMPUR: Mohd Nazri Mohd Zain is on cloud nine after achieving a rare feat in Malaysian golf history.
On Wednesday, the 30-year-old professional recorded a hole-in-one on the 264m par-four 16th hole on the West Course of the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club (KLGCC) in the final round of the SapuraKencana National Qualifier.
The first such achievement recorded was on the US PGA Tour when American Andrew Magee aced the 332-yard par-four 17th hole at the TPC Scottsdale during the 2001 Phoenix Open.
“I saw the ball rolling into the hole and I started celebrating with my caddie and flight mates,” said a delighted Nazri, who posted a one-over 73.
“It was unbelievable. I’ve only had one hole-in-one on a par-three in 2012.
“This is definitely a huge achievement for me and I’ll keep the ball as a memory,” he added.
Mohd Nazri, who is a regular on the PGM Tour, received RM1,000 for his ace. He also took home RM1,730 for finishing 20th with a three-round 228 total.
