PETALING JAYA: Malaysia continued to stay in front with a 6½-5½ lead over Singapore after the second day of the Prudential Causeway Trophy golf championship.
On a stifling hot day at the Laguna National Golf and Country Club on Saturday, both the countries shared the honours by winning three matches each in the fourball format. Malaysia had taken a 3½-2½ lead in the foursome format on the opening day on Friday.
Nicholas Fung-Khor Kheng Hwai, Danny Chia-Iain Steel and S. Sivachandhran-Kemarol Baharin delivered the points for Malaysia.
Malaysia’s non-playing captain Chong Chee Ming praised his players for their determined display in tough conditions.
“It was a tough, hot day and my team hung in there. I’m happy that we split the fourball series. We expected a close match and that’s the way it’s playing out. It’s going to be a thrilling finish,” he said.
Both countries will be involved in 12 singles matches to decide the winners on Sunday.
