Arie eyeing first ADT win

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s Arie Irawan believes his first Asian Development Tour (ADT) victory is within sight as he takes aim at the ICTSI Orchard Golf Championship starting in the Philippines on Wednesday.

The 23-year-old Malaysian has been sharpening his game on the ADT since 2013 and will put his experience to good use when he tees off against a talented field at the Orchard Golf and Country Club.

He will be joined by upcoming Filipino stars Charles Hong, James Ryan Lam and Carl Santos-Ocampo.

Angelo Que, a three-time Asian Tour winner, will also headline the field alongside Brett Munson of the United States and Englishmen Peter Richardson and Grant Jackson.

Arie hopes to continue on his learning path with the aim of landing his first career title on the ADT, which was created in 2010 as a gateway to the premier Asian Tour.

“I’m beginning to see improvement in my game and it showed in my recent results.

“I believe it’s still a learning process and I am not going to put any expectations on myself yet,” said Arie.

He missed only one cut in six appearances on the ADT this season while notching two top-10s including a tied 16th result at the ICTSI Riviera Classic in the Philippines last week.

His solid performances pushed him to 11th on the Order of Merit and he stands a good chance of improving his rankings this week.

“The ADT has been a good platform for me to improve my game. Playing in these events allows me to identify my strengths and weaknesses and that is where I can access my game and make the necessary improvements.

“Hopefully it will not be long before I begin to make headway,” said a confident Arie.
