KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian No. 1 Nicholas Fung shot his second successive one-over 73 to finish joint 47th in the Maybank Malaysian Open at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club.

Two other Malaysians – Khor Kheng Hwai and amateur Gavin Kyle Green – also finished tied for 47th on one-over 289. Gavin, who is based in the United States, carded a 70 while Kheng Hwai posted a 71. It was the second time Gavin made the cut in the championship.

Starting from the 10th tee, Nicholas had a disastrous start as he picked up three straight bogeys. His only two birdies came at the fifth and seventh holes.

“I hit three good tee shots in my first three holes. Unfortunately, I three putted on all the holes.

But I stayed cool and then managed to birdie the fifth and seventh,” said Nicholas.

Nicholas was pleased with his performance. It was the first time in eight attempts that he managed to make the cut in his national Open.

“It was still a good week for me. I have no complaints. I am looking forward to next year. I am confident I can play better next year because of my performance this week,” said Nicholas.

The best Asian performer was Anirban Lahiri of India. He carded a final round 70 for a 280 total to finish joint 10th.
