Selangor hope to keep fine form going against JDT

PETALING JAYA: Selangor are eager to maintain their unbeaten run by beating heavyweights Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) in their Malaysia Cup Group D clash at the Selayang Municipal Council Stadium tonight.

The Red Giants are unbeaten since the M-League resumed on July 1 after the one-month Hari Raya Aidilfitri break with three wins and three draws in all competitions.

Selangor and JDT are on four points in the group, but the Southern Tigers lead on better goal difference. Terengganu are third with two points while pointless Sarawak are last.

“Our form is good at the moment, so it’s important to keep our momentum going,” said skipper Razman Roslan, a former international defender.

“We need to win all our home matches to qualify for the quarter-finals. JDT is a tough nut to crack but I believe we can do it,” added the 32-year-old.

Like Razman, veteran midfielder Amri Yahyah and nippy Indonesian winger Andik Vermansyah are making a return to action after serving their one-match suspensions.

But Selangor will be without centreback Adam Nor Azlin and wingback Syahmi Safari as both are on national duty at the 2018 AFC Under-23 Championship qualifiers in Bangkok.

Selangor, the record 33-time Malaysia Cup winners, will also have to sweat on the availability of striker Rufino Segovia. The Spaniard is nursing an ankle injury.
