The Super League champions finally ended their jinx at the sixth time of asking – having not beaten the soldiers in five previous meetings since 2013.
Last night, Argentine striker Luciano Figueroa scored the solitary goal in the 19th minute to assure JDT a place in the last eight.
It was, however, the end of the road for the Gladiators, who needed a win to stay in contention for the last eight.
In the Super League, Forces have beaten JDT twice at home – 2-0 in 2013 and 2-1 in 2014 – and drew both the away games 2-2 (2013) and 1-1 (2014). In the ongoing Malaysia Cup competition, Forces held JDT to a goalless draw at the Larkin Stadium.
JDT now have an unassailable lead atop the standings with 13 points from four wins and a draw. The Southern Tigers will wrap up their campaign against Kelantan at the Sultan Mohd IV Stadium in Kota Baru on Tuesday.
The Red Warriors joined JDT in the quarter-finals after they defeated winless Penang 3-1 at the City Stadium last night. The east coast side have nine points, followed by Forces (5) and Penang (1).
In Group A, Felda United and Pahang sealed their berths in the quarter-finals with a game in hand.
The Fighters surged to the top of the standings with a comfortable 3-0 win over Johor Darul Ta’zim II at the Pasir Gudang Stadium. Felda scored through Zah Rahan Krangar (5th), Ahmad Syamin Yahya (16th) and Mohd Raimi Mohd Nor (49th).

The Elephants went ahead from Dickson Nwakaeme’s strike (14th) but the Lions equalised through Sufian Anuar (52nd) before Madhu Mohana popped up with the winner (84th) for their first victory in the competition.
Felda top the group with 10 points, a point ahead of Pahang. Lions are third with five points and JDT II prop up the group with four points.
