PETALING JAYA: Armed Forces have become the bogey team for Super League champions Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT).

The fancied JDT side have not been able to get the better of the Gladiators in five previous meetings since last year.

Forces skipper Hairuddin Omar said JDT have always found it tough to beat them and the record stands in favour of the soldiers with two wins and three draws.

“We have not lost to JDT in five matches but we cannot take things for granted,” said Hairuddin ahead of their penultimate Malaysia Cup Group C match against JDT at the Selayang Stadium on Friday.

The desperate Forces side under coach B. Sathianathan are in a do-or-die situation and badly need three points to stay in contention to qualify for the quarter-finals.

High-riding JDT lead the standings with 10 points followed by Kelantan in second spot with six points.

Third-placed Forces with five points cannot afford to drop points in their remaining fixtures, which include against winless Penang in the last game.

Hairuddin said the team kept their quarter-final hopes alive following their dramatic come from behind win to edge Kelantan 2-1 at the Sultan Mohd IV Stadium in Kota Baru on Tuesday.

“We were on the verge of making an early exit from the competition. But we came alive with two late goals against Kelantan and it kept us alive in the competition. There is still hope and we will not be looking for favours in our bid to win a place in the quarter-finals,” said Hairuddin.

In the Super League, Forces have beaten JDT twice at home 2-0 (2013) and 2-1 (2014) while drew both the away games 2-2 (2013) and 1-1 (2014). In the ongoing Malaysia Cup competition Forces held JDT to a goalless draw at the Larkin Stadium.
