Frenz United hope in Asian Champions Trophy in tatters after 3-0 defeat

PETALING JAYA: Frenz United Malaysia’s hopes of making it to the final of the Asian Champions Trophy suffered a massive blow when they went down 3-0 to PVF Vietnam in the semi-final first leg.

Nguyen Vu Tin was the hero for PVF Vietnam with a hat-trick at the Thong Nhat Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City on Sunday. He was on target in the 22nd, 37th and 84th minutes to take his tally to 11 goals in the tournament.

“It is a setback but we will get back into the game in the return leg,” said Frenz United coach Mat Dinos Talib.

The second leg will be played at the Frenz Stadium in Janda Baik on Aug 17.

In the other semi-final, the Harimau Muda Under-16 side hold the advantage after scoring a 3-1 win over Chonburi FC of Thailand in the first leg at the Frenz Stadium on Saturday. The return leg is at the Chonburi FC Stadium on Aug 18.
