SHAH ALAM: Selangor stretched their lead at the top of the Super League to five points after edging club side Sime Darby 1-0 at the Shah Alam Stadium.
Brazilian striker Paulo Rangel was the star on Saturday night, converting a spot-kick in the 37th minute for the Red Giants to claim the full points. Selangor were awarded the penalty after Indonesian winger Andik Vermansyah was brought down by former international Yosri Dermaraju.
Selangor could have won by a bigger margin, but were let down by woeful finishing. The Klang Valley side are on 34 points while second-placed Pahang, who drew 2-2 with Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) in Johor Baru on Friday, have 29 points.
At the Selayang Stadium in Kuala Lumpur, Armed Forces lifted themselves off the relegation zone by registering a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Terengganu’s T-Team.
New-signing Fabrice Noel of Haiti starred for the Gladiators, scoring a brace in the 21st and 34th minutes. T-Team’s goal came from Patrich Wanggai in the 13th minute.
In a similar script, Terengganu fought back to edge defending champions Lions XII 2-1 at the Sultan Mohd Ismail Stadium in Kuala Terengganu.
The Singaporeans led through Khairul Amri’s eighth-minute goal. The Turtles bounced back through Colombian striker Javier Estupinan in the 13th minute and Zairo Annuar Zailani’s successful spot-kick in the 69th minute.
At the Sultan Mohd IV Stadium in Kota Baru, Kelantan continued their fine run under new Dutch coach George Boateng by beating Perak 2-1.
The Red Warriors, who defeated PKNS FC 2-0 last week, scored through Mohd Shawky (fifth) and Khairul Izuan (77th). Mohd Norhakim Isa netted Perak’s consolation goal in the 83rd minute.
