PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s hopes of reaching the quarter-finals of the AFC Futsal Championships ended after being edged 3-2 by Taiwan in their final Group C match at the Phu Tho Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City.
Taiwan’s goals were scored by Chang Hao Wei (14th minute), Huang Cheng Tsung (17th) and Weng Wei Pin (26th). Malaysia replied through Mohd Asmie Amir Zahari (20th) and Fitri Yatim (29th).
The defeat dropped Malaysia to the bottom of the group with Taiwan. Taiwan however, have a better head-to-head record.
Malaysia started their campaign with a 7-1 loss to Thailand before bouncing back to beat Lebanon 5-1 to stay in contention for the final eight round.
Both Thailand and Lebanon advanced to the quarter-finals after their match ended 3-3. Thailand top the group with seven points and Lebanon are second with four points.
