FAM have engaged the 55-year-old Swiss on a three-year contract to assist in the development of football and oversee the progress of the national and project teams.
FAM general-secretary Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin said Schmid would begin work on May 2.
“We will draw up the job scope for Schmid and it will complement the progress of the national team,” said Hamidin on Tuesday.
The technical director’s post had been vacant since Lim Kim Chon’s contract ended in May last year.
