Kelantan go down to Yangon United in AFC Cup opener

PETALING JAYA: Depleted Kelantan got their AFC Cup football campaign off to a dismal start when they lost to Yangon United 5-3 in a Group G match played at the YTC Stadium in Myanmar.

The home side, playing with the full four foreign player quota, raced to a comfortable 3-0 lead at half-time.

Kyaw Ko Ko scored a hat-trick in the 28th, 52nd, 89th minutes while Brazilian striker Emerson Luis added a brace in the eighth and 44th minutes on Wednesday.

The Red Warriors had three of their foreign players on the crock list and only started the match with Nigerian defender Obinna Nwaneri.

But Kelantan coach Steve Darby’s men staged a fightback and reduced the deficit after the break through Wan Zaharul Nizam Wan Mustapha in the 47th minute while skipper Mohd Badhri Radzi scored a brace in the 63rd and 94th minutes.

Kelantan will host South China FC of Hong Kong in the second game at the Sultan Mohd IV Stadium in Kota Baru on March 12.
