PETALING JAYA: Armed Forces coach B. Sathianathan was in a foul mood after watching his side go down 2-1 to Sime Darby in the FA Cup first round at the Selayang Stadium on Tuesday.
Mahmoud Al Amna fired a double for Sime Darby in the 15th and 88th minutes while Forces replied through skipper Rezal Zambery Yahya in the 66th.
So incensed was the former national coach that he slammed referee Suhaimi Mat Hassan’s performance and tore into his players.
Sathianathan felt that Suhaimi should have awarded a penalty and send off Sime Darby defender Yosri Derma Raju for fouling striker Juan Arostegui in the penalty box in the 59th minute.
“We were denied a clear penalty ... our player was tackled from behind and inside the penalty box, but the referee missed it. I think the referee just woke up,” said an incensed Sathia in the post-match press conference.
“The FA of Malaysia (FAM) should seriously look into the improving the quality of refereeing if they want to improve the M-League.”
The 55-year-old coach also revealed that he dropped first choice goalkeeper Syed Adney Syed Hussien for Tuesday’s match after the former international reported late for training twice.
Sathianathan also warned that some of his players who didn’t perform to expectations will be dropped following the defeat, which saw Forces exiting the FA Cup in the first round for the third consecutive time since 2012. They were knocked out by Perak in 2012 and Selangor last year.
“Some of the players were not up to mark ... I will drop them if they don’t improve. I had to drop Syed Adney because he was late for training. He will be issued with a warning letter,” said the coach.
Commenting on the loss, he explained that his players became complacent after scoring the equaliser in the second half.
“The players took it easy and were punished. I will now focus on boosting my players’ confidence for our Super League match against PKNS on Saturday,” said Sathianathan.
