PETALING JAYA: Cyclist Loh Sea Keong will do it alone in the 168km road race in the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, but it has not dampened his spirits.
Sea Keong, who plies his trade with top-level team Giant Shimano in Holland, is the only rider selected by the Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF) for the road race in the Games from July 23- Aug 3.
Mohd Fauzan Ahmad Lutfi, meanwhile, will be the sole representative for Malaysia in the time trial event.
Sea Keong is now in training camp in Chiang Mai, Thailand, as he prepares to make his Games debut.
“It is an honour to wear the national colours in a big event such as the Commonwealth Games,” said the 27-year-old.
Sea Keong has been boosted by his impressive outing in the Asian Cycling Championships in Kazakhstan last month. He finished a creditable 10th.
“There has been a marked improvement in my performance since I joined the team early this year. But we have to be realistic at the Games as they are so world class cyclists taking part,” said Sea Keong.
Australia have the strongest team as all their seven riders are from top professional teams. England, meanwhile, will be led by 2012 Tour de France winner Bradley Wiggins.
“I will give my all in the race and leave nothing behind. I will be alone in the race but it’s not a problem for me,” said Sea Keong.
