FT trio’s gold was worth the wait

KANGAR: The Federal Territories bowling trio of Ayra Nur Jehan Aminuddin, Sheena Khan Dina Rizal and Siti Nurzulaika Ismail had to endure an anxious wait for hours before getting their hands on the gold medal for the women’s trios event.

They took the gold medal with a total of 3,577 pinfalls over six games at the Perlis Bowl yesterday. Sarawak claimed the silver medal on 3,551 while Sabah grabbed the bronze medal on 3,507.

After topping the first squad roll-off in the morning, the three of them waited at the venue until the second squad played two out of their three remaining games. But the pressure of watching other teams playing just got to them.

“We just couldn’t stand it anymore. The pressure was so intense so we decided to go back to our rooms,” said Sheena, a national youth squad member.

The Sarawak trio of Jackelyn Ng, Jocelyna Judith Jonathan and Nerosha Keligit were battling hard against Sabah’s Dzuriani Dzulkiplee, Siti Aishajan Husin and Syarifah Nadia Ali in the second squad and looked on course to win the gold medal.

But they succumbed to pressure as they failed to better the score of the FT’s trio.

It was a sweet victory for the City girls as they picked up the first gold for FT in bowling thus far.

“We are targeting the team events – trios and team of fives – in this Sukma. One is in our bag and now we want to move on to the next one,” said Ayra.
