KUALA LUMPUR: Westports Malaysia Dragons chalked up their fourth straight win in the Asean Basketball League (ABL) by beating Singapore Slingers 85-59.
The Dragons were quick off the blocks in the first quarter at the Maba Stadium on Friday, but a lack of focus allowed the Slingers to steal a narrow 21-18 lead.
That fired up the Dragons and they came charging in the second quarter with an impressive defensive and counter-attacking display to limit the Slingers to just eight points.
With a comfortable 43-29 lead going into the third quarter, the Dragons confidently held the Slingers at bay with shooting guard Loh Shee Fai finding his touch from the three-point line.
With Slingers centre Kyle Jeffers fouling out early, the Dragons comfortably romped home with a 26-point win to consolidate second spot in the six-team league.
Chris Eversley was the Dragons’ top scorer with 25 points.
Justin Knox added 15 points and 13 rebounds while point guard Avery Scharer contributed 12 points from the bench.
Wong Wei Long and Jeffers led the way for the Slingers with 12 and 11 points respectively.
The Dragons and Slingers will meet again in Singapore on Sunday.
