Malaysia to meet China in Badminton World Junior Championships finals


PETALING JAYA: Malaysia are in the final of the badminton mixed team event at the World Junior Championships in Yogjakarta, Indonesia.

On Friday, the team led by Kuala Lumpur SEA Games women singles champion Goh Jin Wei demolished South Korea 3-0 in the semi-finals.

Jin Wei clinched the winning point after beating An Se-young 21-16, 21-19 in 36 minutes in the girls' singles event.

Two other points were delivered by Ng Eng Cheong-Tan Sueh Jeou in the mixed doubles and Asian junior champion Leong Jun Hao in the boys' singles.

Eng Cheong-Sueh Jeou defeated Jeong-min-Kim Seong-jae 21-9, 21-12 in 21 minutes while Jun Hao stood solid to beat Ki Dong-ju 21-6, 21-19.

They will take on defending champions China in the final on Saturday.

Malaysia lost 3-0 to China in the last year's world junior final in Bilbao, Spain. This time, they are expected to give China a run for their money.
