Independent men’s singles shuttler Goh Giap Chin lasted only 29 minutes before going down 15-21, 15-21 to Suppanyu Avihingsanon of Thailand.
Mixed doubles pair Chan Peng Soon-Cheah Yee See’s late charge proved in vain as they lost 15-21, 26-28 to Indonesia’s Riky Widianto-Masita Mahmudin in 55 minutes.
Top seeds Chow Mei Kuan-Lee Meng Yean blew a good chance to win their first women’s doubles title this year when they were defeated 7-21, 17-21 by seventh seeds Della Destiara Haris-Rizki Amelia Pradipta of Indonesia.
