PUTRAJAYA: Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) acting president Tan Sri Al-Amin Abdul Majid will let his deputy Datuk Seri Norza Zakaria win the presidency uncontested.

Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin announced the decision after a BAM council meeting with association patron Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor at Seri Perdana Thursday evening.

The council also unanimously agreed that Al-Amin be appointed advisor at its annual general meeting on April 29.

Norza will take over from Tengku Tan Sri Mahaleel Tengku Ariff who has been on sick leave for the last two years.

Tengku Mahaleel had revealed that Norza should be the president based on a "gentleman's agreement" made two years ago.
