PETALING JAYA: Denmark enjoyed a delightful double when they emerged as the biggest winners at the Singapore Open.
Their first crown came when veteran and fifth seeds Mathias Boe-Carsten Mogensen upstaged fourth seeds Li Junhui-Liu Yuchen of China 21-13, 21-14 in the men’s doubles final at the Singapore Indoor Stadium to nick their first Superseries title this year.
Then, second seeds Kamilla Rytter Juhl-Christinna Pedersen upset top seeds and nemesis Misaki Matsutomo-Ayaka Takahashi of Japan 21-18, 14-21, 21-15 to lift the women’s doubles title.
It was the Danish pair’s sixth win in 15 meetings against the world No. 1 combination from Japan.
India’s B. Sai Praneeth, 24, turned the tables on senior K. Srikanth 17-21, 21-17, 21-12 to nick his maiden Superseries men’s singles title.
