PETALING JAYA: Liew Daren got off to a winning start in his first tournament as an independent shuttler.
The 2012 French Open winner, who parted ways with the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) in January, outplayed Taiwan’s Liu Wei-chi 21-17, 21-13 in the men’s singles first round at the New Zealand Open in Auckland.
