GLASGOW: All the Malaysian players, except for mixed doubles pair Goh V Shem-Lim Yin Loo, have come through unscathed after the second day of action in the individual badminton competition at the Emirates Arena.
On Thursday, V Shem-Yin Loo became the first Malaysian pair to crash out of the Glasgow Commonwealth Games after going down fighting 21-15, 14-21, 14-21 to third seeds Robert Blair-Imogen Bankier of Scotland in the second round.
In the mixed doubles, only Chan Peng Soon-Lai Pei Jing are left standing for Malaysia after they beat Sri Lanka’s Buwaneka Dullewa-Madushika Beruwalage 21-13, 21-15.
The win sees them setting up an intriguing match against second seeds Danny Bawa Chrisnanta-Vanessa Neo of Singapore.
In the mixed team event, the Malaysians had done well to beat Danny-Vanessa in the deciding match in the semi-finals.
Earlier, Tan Wee Kiong-Vivian Hoo found top seeds Chris Adcock-Gabrielle Adcock too hot to handle and bowed out 17-21, 11-21.
In the women’s singles, Tee Jing Yi marched into the quarter-finals with a 21-9, 21-6 win over Sri Lanka’s Nadeesha Murukkuwadura.
She will have a tougher time next as she will be up against P.C Thulasi of India.
