KUALA LUMPUR: National singles chief coach Rashid Sidek has been picked as the team leader for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games from July 23-Aug 3, but he will not be going.
It is learnt that Rashid, the 1990 Auckland Games singles champion, is unhappy with the Badminton Association of Malaysia’s (BAM) interference in his job.
In May, Rashid was chosen as the team leader for the Thomas-Uber Cup Finals and the men’s team did well to reach the final.
This is Rashid's second run-in with the BAM’s new management.
Last year, he quit as national coach because he could not tolerate the changes made by the BAM. Fortunately, Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin coaxed him back into the team.
