PETALING JAYA: It was a day to cherish for Denmark’s Jan O Jorgensen as he claimed a well-deserved third Superseries title at the Indonesian Open in Jakarta.
In the men’s singles showdown on Sunday, the world No. 3 stepped up his game to defeat Kenichi Tago – the opponent he has yet to beat in two previous meetings this year – 21-18, 21-18 in 44 minutes.
Jorgensen lost to the world No. 4 at the Korean Open in January and last month’s Thomas Cup.
It was the 26-year-old Jorgensen's first win outside Europe, having won his previous titles in the 2010 Denmark Open and French Open last year.
Meanwhile, world No. 1 Li Xuerui beat reigning world champion Ratchanok Intanon 21-13, 21-13 for her third title of the year.
South Korea’s Lee Yong-dae-Yoo Yeon-seong broke thousands of home fans' hearts at the Istora Senayan by denying world No. 1 Mohd Ahsan-Hendra Setiawan for the second time in as many weeks in the men’s doubles final.
In a repeat of the previous week’s Japan Open final, Yong-dae-Yeon-seong again emerged victorious with a 21-15, 21-17 win over Ahsan-Hendra.
