The Sabah Badminton Association had asked BAM to consider ex-national player Sannatasah Saniru, currently ranked 89th on the world, for a place in the Uber Cup team.
KUALA LUMPUR: The selection of the squad for the Uber Cup Finals is set to be reviewed following a request to consider former international Sannatasah Saniru in the team.
The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) had conducted an open selection trial for the Thomas Cup Finals two weeks ago by including former internationals but they did not hold one for the women’s team.
The closing date for entries by name for the Thomas and Uber Cup Finals is on May 4. The Finals will be held in New Delhi from May 18-25.
The Sabah BA have sent an official letter requesting for BAM to consider World No 89th Sannatasah, who had been active on the world circuit and reached the semi-finals of the Vietnam International Challenge two weeks ago.
Tentatively, the women’s singles players in the list for the Uber Cup Finals are Tee Jing Yi (World No 53rd), Yang Li Lian (122nd), Lim Yin Fun (183rd) and Lim Chiew Sien (203rd).
The World No 171 Sonia Cheah would have been a better bet but unfortunately, her condition is suspect after she aggravated her stomach injury once again. Her elder sister Lydia, who left the national team last year, is currently ranked 293rd in the world.
